Basic Dignity Coalition meetings take place the first Thursday of each month at Moniker Warehouse, 705 16th Street, San Diego, CA 92101 from 6-7 p.m.
Did you ever consider clean drinking water or using the restroom to be a luxury?
These basic human rights are unavailable to many of our neighbors. In San Diego, people on our city streets die every year from dehydration and health complications arising from a lack of access to restrooms and basic sanitation.
In 2010, based on a survey conducted alongside homeless veterans in San Diego, we launched a Basic Dignity Campaign with community partners for bathrooms and water. Thanks to the leadership of City Council member Marti Emerald, we won a major victory in 2014, with the installation of two 24/7, solar-powered “Portland Loos” bathroom facilities.
We are not stopping there!
We continue to look for ways to further change through community organizing and advocacy, and continue to coordinate with the homeless themselves, community members dedicated to advancing basic dignity, and those serving homeless individuals to eliminate unnecessary duplications and fill gaps. Our monthly Basic Dignity Coalition meetings are held the first Thursday of every month at Moniker Warehouse, 705 16th St., San Diego, from 6-7pm. Please join us!
