Emily joined the GTT Board of Directors in September 2011 as chair of the Programs Committee and served as Vice President prior to her appointment as president in October 2013. She served as President until October 2016. She is now the Development Committee Chair.
Emily is a state and federal criminal defense and civil rights attorney. She is a member of the board of directors of the Criminal Defense Bar Association of San Diego and a member of the San Diego Civil Rights Working Group.
Emily graduated from California Western School of Law in 2010 in the top one-third of her class and received the Academic Achievement Award in California Sentencing Law. She also interned with Appellate Defenders, Inc., and worked as a research assistant for Professor Laurence Benner, examining probable cause standards in search warrants issued in San Diego County. After graduation, she volunteered with the California Innocence Project, investigating inmates’ claims of factual innocence.
Emily provides pro bono legal services to homeless veterans for Homeless Court at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs annual Stand Down event. She serves as a volunteer speaker for the American Civil Liberties Union Constitution Day annually. She also volunteers with the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, mediating disputes between juveniles in the Girls' Rehabilitation Facility of the County of San Diego Probation Department.
