Keith Mautner

Keith Mautner, CPA CFE CMA, investigated alleged financial statement fraud by public companies for 23 years, helping secure nearly $3 billion in securities settlements from 78 defendants in 56 cases (an average of more than $50 million per case).  He was the lead forensic investigator into a number of so-called “audit failures,” and his experience includes high-profile alleged frauds such as Enron.

Keith started his career as an auditor for Deloitte & Touche after graduating from SDSU.  Later, he was responsible for corporate financial statements at two private companies as controller and as CFO, and helped prepare SEC filings at a public company.  After 11 years at a major law firm, Keith started his firm FAILSAFE CPA, which provided a wide range of forensic and other expert accounting services from 2008 until his retirement in 2020.  Keith has lectured at universities for graduate and undergraduate students and has spoken about forensic accounting and accounting fraud to attorneys and accountants at conferences, seminars, and webinars.

Keith has been an involved supporter of Think Dignity since its inception.  He joined the Board’s Operations and Finance Committee in 2018, and began attending Basic Dignity Coalition meetings again that same year.  Keith grew up with a passion for the underdog and tries to model his father’s dedication to volunteer service.  He supports numerous nonprofit organizations and also serves as Treasurer for Vanguard Culture, a local 501(c)(3) arts organization.
