Mod Squad: Fresh Start Showers

With the recent surge of COVID-19 cases and guidance from our medical partners, our Fresh Start Showers program events will continue to be temporarily halted until further notice. We will continue to monitor the situation and conduct program re-assessments during this time to ensure that our future reopening will continue to protect the health and advance basic dignity of our guests.

In lieu of our Fresh Start Showers program, we will continue to create and distribute our Dignity Kits (hygiene kits) and masks to our operating community partners. As fellow Dignity Defenders, we would like to ask for your support in allowing us to continue this work by sponsoring a Dignity Kit for $25, donating items through our Amazon Wishlist, selecting Think Dignity as your beneficiary for Amazon Smile purchases, and/or joining us as a Sustaining Member. You can also use Capital One Shoppinga free browser tool that can find savings when you shop online if you choose to donate items on our wishlist.

For any questions, please contact our Programs and Operations Manager, Merlynn Watanabe, at merlynn@thinkdignity.org.

Our Fresh Start Showers is a 2-shower mobile trailer that brings basic dignity to our unhoused neighbors by providing access to safe shower facilities in various communities throughout the County. Think Dignity offers more than showers by pairing with hairstylists, barbers, social service providers and more, to create a holistic experience for our participants. In the past year we have been able to give close to 1000 individual showers and hygiene kits. In the upcoming year, we hope to include two new permanent sites - an overall growth of 200% since this time last year - and partner with medical students from UCSD Medical School to provide a supplemental “Health Fairs for the Homeless.”

We are always seeking volunteers, barbers, hairstylists, massage therapists, water bottles, clean clothing, and many other partners to ensure the success of the Mobile Showers.

Please contact our Program and Operations Manager, Merlynn Watanabe at merlynn@thinkdignity.org if you are interested in getting involved.
