The Street Cafe is one of our mobile programs under our umbrella MOD (Mobile Operations of Dignity) Squad, and serves healthy, delicious food in a pop-up farmer's market style. The goal of the Street Cafe is to address food insecurity within the homeless community.
While addressing food insecurity in a general sense may not require anything more than access to food, the Street Cafe aims to provide healthy food choices in an effort to combat nutrition-related disease and promote emotional and mental well-being.
Our guests are allowed to "shop" for the meals and the produce that they want, while we also distribute information on healthy choices that can be bought at local fast-food restaurants with EBT.
Like our other two programs, our Street Cafe is a mobile program to account for the fact that the population we serve is transient in nature; and, in addition, going out to those living on the streets allows us to interact with people in their space without requiring unnecessary travel.
Currently, the Street Cafe is held in Chicano Park, San Diego, CA 92113 - check out the calendar for specific dates.
