Due to the current COVID-19 situation, Mobile Operations of Dignity (MOD) Squad programs will continue to remain closed until Monday, August 3rd. We will continue to monitor the situation and conduct program re-assessments at that time.
In lieu of our MOD Squad programs, we will continue to create and distribute hygiene kits to our operating community partners. As fellow Dignity Defenders, we would like to ask for your support in allowing us to continue this work by donating hygiene kit items through our Amazon Wishlist, selecting Think Dignity as your beneficiary for Amazon Smile purchases, and/or joining us as a Sustaining Member. For more information on how you can support, check here.
The Street Cafe is one of our mobile programs under our umbrella MOD (Mobile Operations of Dignity) Squad, and serves healthy, delicious food in a pop-up farmer's market style. The goal of the Street Cafe is to address food insecurity within the homeless community.
While addressing food insecurity in a general sense may not require anything more than access to food, the Street Cafe aims to provide healthy food choices in an effort to combat nutrition-related disease and promote emotional and mental well-being.
Our guests are allowed to "shop" for the meals and the produce that they want, while we also distribute information on healthy choices that can be bought at local fast-food restaurants with EBT.
Like our other two programs, our Street Cafe is a mobile program to account for the fact that the population we serve is transient in nature; and, in addition, going out to those living on the streets allows us to interact with people in their space without requiring unnecessary travel.
Currently, the Street Cafe is held in Chicano Park, San Diego, CA 92113 - check out the calendar for specific dates.
